I got a new backdrop the other day so this morning I set up the gear and took a few test shots.
Once again Levi volunteered to be the model. The background is a solid grey. I put a blue gel on the background light, just playing around. Kinda like it.

The Knoxville Skate Park

Last Weekend I visited the Knoxville Skate Park with my camera. I had a great time shooting the bikes,boards and blades. I would like to thank the riders for their patience with me as I do not usually do sports photography. I might just start shooting more sports, i had a lot of fun. I made this little flip book with some of the images. The skate park does not seem to be very busy and it's a nice big park.
If you ride get out there. If you don't ride but enjoy watching, they could use an audience!

Shot an old friend

Got together with an old friend last night to create some images for use in his soon to be released new album. I'll try to post more information about that when I get it.
C.W.Smith is a singer/songwriter as well as a computer fix it guru.

You can hardly tell in this shot that it was 187 degrees that evening. Drove by this building later to find it had actually melted.

Congratulations to Tom and Dixie. I had the privilege of shooting their wedding this last weekend. It was great to see her and her family again. I have know Dixie for a long, long time.
Linda and I wish you both the best.
I also need to thank Steve T. for all his help shooting this wedding. He was a big help and we actually had a lot of fun.
Here he is hard at work testing the lighting during the rehearsal.
Thanks also to his wife for putting up with us camera geeks and to my wife for her help with organizing the formals.

A woman returned from vacation to discover the imprint of an owl on her window. Resident Sally Arnold reports the bird was not found nearby so it was likely not harmed in the incident. The image was created due to "powder down" which is a protective substance on new feathers. (Photo: Sally Arnold)

Well, I am happy to say I was not completely disappointed with the new photography show From the Edge with Peter Lik on the Weather Channel. There were some very cool images and experiences shared. The footage was great, the audio was great and the idea is pretty solid. However in my opinion, photography is simply one of those things that people are into or they are not. Those who are not into photography may give the show a chance. A chance.
Those of us who are into photography will most likely watch in hopes of learning. Peter Lik is a great photographer. I just wonder how they can include all the geeky tech stuff that the photographers watching will want with all the excitement and intrigue the non-photographers watching will want.
That said, it was fun to watch the crocodile hunter run around with a $25,000 camera. (no offense Peter)

I am going to be watching the weather channel. They have a new show where they follow a photographer around as he captures nature and landscape images. This could be good. I hope this is good. There have been several attempts at photography themed shows and they never seem to fly. Maybe this one will.

Happy Birthday Waylon!

Waylon turned 9 years old on the 17th. We had a party for him over the weekend. Since his birthday is on St. Patrick's Day, he usually gets a green theme party. This time Waylon wanted a Minion cake. For those of you out of the loop, minions are characters from the movie "Despicable Me". Linda and I stayed up till 12:30 in the morning building an army of minions.
He loved them.

Yesterday I decided to build a soft box. Just thought I'd give it a try. It's not pretty but it does work. Here are some test shots i made with it last night.

Not too bad for a DIY lighting. I feathered the light across the face and bounced it back with a reflector. I am even happy with the catch lights.
We might try it again tonight, but this time comb hair and wash faces!

PicAxe

Hello again,
I have been waiting to write about this on the blog for awhile now.
Back in October I had a senior session with Meghan. You can see some of her images here.
Then in early December her father asked me if I could put one of her images on an electric guitar.
I did some looking into it and found away to make it happen. Mostly I found some helpful friends to make it happen.
I had to wait to write about it online until today because it was a surprise for her birthday.
So yesterday was her birthday party. ( her actual birthday is not for a few more days) Her father was nice enough to invite me to the party to see her reaction. Thanks Jim.
The guitar turned out so awesome that I am going to offer it as a product for clients.
It is called PicAxe. And it Rocks!

I will share more about the PicAxe in later post. For now, Happy Birthday Meghan. Hope you enjoy the first ever PicAxe!

I recently updated some images on the Home Page of my website, www.kagedcreek.com. While doing so I realized that I have not put those images on the blog either. So here they are, Better late than never.

About a week before our session a wind storm blew most all of the leaves (and colors) of the trees. Had to pay close attention to the backgrounds to keep them interesting and not distracting. she set up a drum set on a wooden bridge in her backyard and we created some really cool shots there. Then we hit the road a found some great locations. We shot till the we ran out of light.

With the next few blog posts I plan to explain a little about what I have been busy working on lately.
Mostly getting ready for 2011.
One of the things I have been working on is a Session Info Card. This is currently designed as a 5" x 5" tri-fold press printed card that will have helpful information about our portrait sessions. It will be accompanied by another work in progress, Print Paper Samples.
The Session Info Card and the Print Paper Samples will be mailed to or delivered to our clients on request or before the session.
The Print Paper Samples will allow you to actually hold in your hands all of the print paper options currently available. E-surface has always been the most popular, however I think that will change when you see our Metallic Paper. I really do not know how to explain the metallic paper prints, you just have to see them! True Black & White paper is definitely the way to go for your B/W prints.
Lustre Coating is a great way to help protect your prints and add a richness and fullness to your images.
Linen Texture makes any print look and feel like it should hang in a gallery.
I will post more on these as I finish them.
I also have several other projects going on, Stay tuned.

Metal Prints!

I am very excited about our new Metal Prints.
These are so cool!
I ordered one of the boys for a Christmas Gift for Linda and WOW!
The image is infused directly into specially coated aluminum sheets.
These are durable prints with out glass. They are waterproof, weatherproof and have an ultra hard scratch-resistant surface that can be easily cleaned with any commercial glass cleaner.
Like all prints you should avoid direct sunlight as this can lead to fading and discoloring.
Huge range of sizes available and you can have the corners rounded or square.
My favorite thing about the Metal Print is the unique way the image is presented to the viewer.
There is no glass, no frame. Right away it catches your eye as different. Then you notice that it seems to be floating off the wall. It has a mount block that floats the print 1/2" off the wall.

I need say thanks to a couple of folks. Over the weekend, Brenda, a friend of ours called and asked me to shoot a house that she is selling for a client. Thanks for thinking of us Brenda!

I also need to thank another friend. Ben helped assist me on this shoot as my wife was unable to make it. Thanks Ben for helping on such short notice.
Ben also has done some searching for a new computer for me as my desktop computer fried itself monday morning. This was my main image editing computer so work is kind of at a stand still right now. Hoping to have a new one in a week or two.

I'm Back

Been offline for a while. Back online now and have a lot of catching up do. We moved to Melcher and I am going to try to set up a studio in our garage. It wont happen in time for this years seniors but maybe the next. Lot of work to do on the house but I can't wait to get back to shooting. I will try to get some new stuff going on the blog soon and I have a lot of updating to do on the website.

Here's one from last August. No doubt, the eyes make the shot, but I really like the bokeh, the light and the color of this image. I need to thank both H.S. the model and Blake, my assistant on this shoot, even though neither one of them warned me that the water I was stepping into was way deeper then it looked.

History and Brownies

This is pretty cool so I thought that I would share it with you. I like to thank my Mom for sharing it with me and my Cousin for sharing it with her. Below are some really great photos taken on December 7th, 1941. They are not just great because they capture what happened that day. That would be cool enough. But what makes these images even more special is that they were only recently discovered. The film was still in the camera, an old Kodak Brownie. The camera was found in an old footlocker. After all these years the film was still able to be developed revealing these great shots of Pearl Harbor as the owner of this camera, a sailor, saw it. Very cool.

Sick

I have been under the weather for a few weeks now. First I thought it was just a head cold so I went to the doctor who said it was a sinus infection. Got the prescription and went on home. Two or three days later, it was worst. Back to the doctor. Bronchitis! Even better, new drugs and back home. Two or three days later my wife says she is taking me back to the doctor because I can't seem to stay awake. So here I am now with Mono. This is great. The air is cooling, the trees are turning, from the window the light looks great. I have just enough energy to get to the kitchen before taking a break. Maybe I will get to shoot again before the snow flies.

Had a fun time shooting this bunch about a week ago. Six young ladies and one little man who was to young to care that he was way out numbered. They all did a great job and we got a lot of shots at several different locations in 2 hours. When I got home I discovered I was running a temperature of 102. I hope no one else got sick!
Thanks to all the kids and the Mom's for a great photo shoot. Let's do it again soon!

Project Hero

Every now and then I like to start a small personal project to keep my photo juices flowing. The other night I thought up "Project Hero". What is Project Hero? Well, I'm not sure yet. I would like to shoot portraits of local Firefighters, Police officers and anyone else that one would consider a hero. I would prefer to shoot them in uniform and at work ( the fire station, police station, you get the idea.) Right now I am able to offer each Hero I shoot the digital image to be used on their myspace, facebook or what ever social networking site as well as create a Project Hero Website that would showcase the images. If the project takes off enough I could consider using the images for promotional pieces for the Fire Department, Police Department or any others that are interested.

Fast and Furious

I had a half an hour to shoot with this young lady. That included finding a location (by foot) setting up a light and hitting the shutter every chance I got.
